5th AnnualPeak-to-Peak Mountain Bike Racepresented by Right Brain BreweryRACER UPDATE 2010GREETINGS, RACERS! Here's the vital info for the Twenty-Ten Peak-2-Peak Mountain Bike Classic, held at beautiful Crystal Mountain Resort and Spa in Thompsonville, Michigan. The following information will help you maximize your enjoyment on race day and give you some insight into what to expect. The P2P CourseMost racers I talk to think the course is pretty darn good as is so it will remain pretty much unchanged, with maybe a new section of trail along with a couple of small surprises. For those of you new to the race this year, the course is a combination of Crystal Mountain property and State land - specifically, the Betsie River Pathway. We've put together what we think is a fantastic layout which promises to be both unique and challenging. One thing we do know: it's really fast.Racers will start at the base of the mountain with a paved roll-out through Crystal Mountain properties and then the fun begins. You'll skirt along some wicked-good single-track and 2-tracks on the south side of the property before ducking in to the Betsie River Pathway. There, you'll be on miles of ribbon-like single-track that twists, winds and loops through dense hardwoods and cedar/pine lowland forests, leading to the Betsie River. It is extremely fast because you're mostly going downhill toward the river. Climbing? Yes. First, out of the river basin (not so bad) then to the base of the mountain on its west side, which becomes a little more challenging. There, you'll find some sweet but technical single-track climbing and descending, followed by a long, steady uphill (for Sport, Expert and Pro/Elite classes only) that will bring racers to the peak of the mountain. As in the past, the Clipper chair lift will be running and there will be tons of spectators at the top to cheer you on. The vistas are awesome but there'll be little time to enjoy the view as you start descending on some of the best downhill single-track in the state, leading back to the base of the mountain where you started. The course clocks out at just about 11 miles. Please note that the beginner categories will not be climbing to the top of the mountain but will take an alternate route which will still provide plenty of climbing and descending to pack a punch! Pre-riding the courseThe trails that comprise the Crystal Mountain and the Betsie River Pathway are always open to riding during the season but those portions that make up the course won't be marked until a couple of days prior to the race. For more information on the trails, check with the Mountain Adventure Center at Crystal Mountain where trail maps are available.Chronotrack TimingTony and Debbie Newton from Race Services Company have done a fantastic job in all the previous P2P's and are signed on again this year, using Chronotrack technology. Here's what that means for racers:
Gun TimeAll categories will be timed using GUN TIME – the clock for your wave will start when the first rider in the wave crosses the starting line. Please seed yourselves accordingly!NEW**Well, we said last year that we'd take a poll of the Pros on the 4-lap format that was used in 2009 and the verdict is in: go back to 3 laps! So, the Pro/Elite Men will go back to the three (3) lap format for Twenty-ten.HOWEVER: the Pros and Experts will be on the course after the Beginners and Sport classes have raced and finished. See the wave starts below. TandemsTandem riders will have one class with no age or gender breakdown, and will complete 2 loops. Only one entry form/fee per tandem is required and with both names on it. Tandems can be male-male, male-female, or female-female, any age, any skill level. As the race grows, we plan to offer more classes in the tandem category.Single SpeedsThe Single-Speed class is expanding! Single-speed riders (all males the first 4 years) will have two classes again this year: Sport and Expert. Sports will do two laps and Experts will go three laps.LicensesNo licenses of any kind are required for the Peak2Peak Mountain Bike Classic.Wave Start Times for Sport and Beginners Classes (Subject to minor variations)

Right Brain is down in the hipster warehouse district of Traverse City and where many of the local cyclists hang out to cool down after the ride. Owner Russ Springsteen and staff are always ready with a new brew to satisfy… along with Right Brain, there will be an outdoor cookout right near the finish line, complete with great tunes and a family-friendly atmosphere.Awards, Purse, and Prize DrawingsThe awards ceremony for the Sports and Beginners classes will be held at the base of the mountain near the finish line, and is scheduled for about 12:45 P.M., give or take. For the Pro/Elite and Expert classes, the awards will start around 3:30. In case of inclement weather, we'll go into the Mountain View Room in the Lodge. There will be medals for the first 3 finishers in each class and cash awards for the top finishers overall for men and women, in the Pro/Elite class. The cash payouts have increased again this year:
